The Kochi Metro is the eighth inter-city metro rail project of India. Built at a cost of Rs 5,181-crore it spans 25 km across 22 stations. The Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone for Kochi Metro rail project in 2012 & the metro was flagged off with much fanfare by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a big inauguration ceremony on 17th June 2017.

The metro has bicycles on offer to its commuters for free at every station to ride around the city.

Women & transgenders at the forefront
Kochi Metro is creating history with the fact that a majority of its workforce comprises of women & transgenders for different operations ranging from ticketing to maintenance.

Themed stations
Each one of the Kochi Metro stations are designed on different themes like aquatic animals, birds, flowers, forests and more. 

Water Metro
Water transport is envisaged as a feeder service to the Metro rail corridor to connect the metro to the 10 islands of Kochi.

Disabled friendly coaches
The metro rail service not only have special provisions to provide wheelchairs, but it will also have reserved seats for people with disabilities.

Ticketing
Kochi Metro has also adopted a single card apart from the regular tickets, along with a single timetable and a singular command and control. The debit card along with the Kochi One Mobile App will allow passengers to access all modes of public transportation as well as be utilized for mercantile and internet transactions. 

Free WiFi
In a first for any metro in the country, the Kochi Metro has plans to offer free wi-fi at stations & inside the coaches.
